The Rock

Some day's we feel like we are trapped...a huge rock blocking our escape to the life we are supposed to have...

I WILL MOVE THE ROCK
by Cindy Lu

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might.

This the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, Satan decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man's mind such as: "You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn't budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never going to move it!"

Thus giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure, these thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man even more. "Why kill myself over this?' he thought. "I'll just put in my time, giving the minimum effort, and that will be good enough.."

And that he planned to do, but first he decided to pray and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. "Lord," he said, "I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?"

To this the Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewed and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done.

"I, my friend, will now move the rock."

At times when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what he wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in him...

By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but it is still God who moves the mountains.

God, You call us to obedience everyday. Sometimes, I want to see beyond obedience. I want to know why, how and when. Yet, it is usually long after the obedience that I begin to realize what Your plan was back then. So help me just be obedient for today. I am learning, Lord, that by being obedient today, I am stronger for tomorrow. In Jesus' name Amen.

A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.

1 Corinthians 7:15

Today many of you may be feeling worn down and discouraged. You’ve been trying to change your current situation and/or circumstances. I want to encourage each of you to let go. Do what God asks you to do and he will "MOVE YOUR ROCK". He wants you to trust and rely on Him in EVERY area of your life.

Believe In Yourself

The older we get the more we tend to look back and ask, "Have I achieved my goals? Have I pursued my dreams? I know that I let fear rule my life ever since I can remember. I would put on a very confident, somewhat aggressive exterior but what was happening deep inside was completely different than my public persona.

I never tried to achieve my hopes and dreams because I was afraid of failure. I would rather play it safe than look stupid. I've decided to finally reach for those dreams...I'm not going to let fear control my life any longer. I found the following story very inspiring.

SHAKE YOUR BOX
Author Unknown

I recently heard a story about a very poor lady in India who had a child. The Dr's said he would never be able to walk. The lady loved her child and made a box, tied a string around her waist and pulled the baby everywhere she went. The child got bigger and started shaking the box. It would tip over, the mother scolded the child, picked him up, put him back in the box, and went on again. Eventually the child shook the box so hard it tipped over and broke. The mother went to pick the child up...but the child began to crawl over to a wall, and pulled himself up. The moral of this story is, SHAKE YOUR BOX!

You were made to accomplish great things. Find your life purpose and do not let your past control your future. Remember to shake your box everyday...you are so close to achieving your dreams.
